Intensive one-day seminar in animal and human paleopathology organized by MonBones
MonBones research project organizes an intensive one-day seminar in animal and human paleopathology. The objective of this seminar is to introduce participants in the field of paleopathology, integrating theoretical and methodological approaches to understand biological and disease processes in the past.
The seminar will take place at the Department of History and Archaeology from the University of Barcelona.
The seminar includes five theoretical/practical lectures:
– 10h: Alex Tarragó, veterinary, lecture title: Radiological analysis and animal paleopathology, an essential tool.
– 11h: Marina Fernández, zooarchaeologist, lecture title: The health status of animals in late antiquity and medieval times in Barcelona.
– 12h: Practical cases.
– 15h: Anthony Cevallos, physical anthropologist, lecture title: Insights on distinguishing between pseudo-pathological and pathological lesions.
– 16h: Marta Merino, archaeoanthropologist, lecture title: The health status of humans from medieval site Antics Jutjats in Barcelona.
– 17h. Carme Rissech, physical anthropologist, lecture title: Lesions on human bones caused by violence. The case of Caballeros de Calatrava.

Dental Bioarchaeology: Human and Animal Teeth
MonBones research team organizes an intensive one day-long seminar on dental bioarchaeology to introduce participants to the analysis of human and mammal teeth from archaeological and forensic settings.
The objective of this seminar is to familiarise participants with the study of dental remains and on the diverse information they can offer about individuals life and death.
Prior experience in human and mammal teeth is not required.
